We Are Chosen

2 Samuel 11:1 (NIV)

“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.”

Devoción

Pastor Franklin pointed out in Sunday’s sermon that King David was not where he was supposed to be. He wasn’t doing what he was anointed to do—rule. He was anointed to rule and lead Israel, handpicked by God. But instead, we see here that his flesh is ruling over him, and he is abdicating his responsibility.

Our lives can run in that same pattern. We have been called to the ministry of reconciliation, but our own desires, our fleshly cravings, can snuff out that special calling if we are not alert and aware. When is the last time you went through your day asking for discernment and wisdom concerning the Enemy’s attacks on you, your family, and your ministry? The Enemy gains a foothold into our lives because we remain—remain in complacency. Extraordinary things happen in the course of daily, ordinary choices.

Rebekah willingly and faithfully drew water. She served Abraham’s servants.

1 Peter 2:9: “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

We are chosen; we are handpicked. We should be busy about the Father’s business. When our eyes are focused on His ministry, we simply don’t have the time or inclination to be attracted to the faux life the Enemy tries to paint for us, slowly blinding us to God’s greatness.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,

Forgive me for the times I chose and choose self over Your Truth. Create in me a clean and pure heart, and please do not take Your Spirit from me. Remove the darkness in my life, keep my eyes fixed on You and Your Word, and give me courage to walk daily in obedience to the holy calling on my life. Let me not bring generational curses on my family through the choices I make today. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Ask the Lord to open your eyes today to every area in your heart where you may find self-will. It can show up in the form of pride, rebellion, or stubbornness against His will, His ways, or His character. These are areas where temptation may occur. They are “cracks in the walls.” And just like water, temptation will find the path of least resistance to get in and take the city. Surrender these areas to the Lord today.
