Walking Wisely in Every Opportunity

In the movie “I Can Only Imagine 2”, Bart Millard experiences success yet faces struggles in his family, faith, and personal life. Through these challenges, he discovers that success alone cannot satisfy the heart or guarantee a meaningful life. God continually places opportunities before him to love his family, encourage others, and trust Him through difficult circumstances.

Paul gives believers a similar challenge in Ephesians 5:15–16. He urges us to walk circumspectly, with careful intention and moral watchfulness, rather than carelessly drifting through life. Wisdom is more than knowledge; it is applying God's truth in our daily decisions. A wise person seeks God's will before making choices and lives with spiritual discernment instead of being guided by emotions or worldly values.

Paul also tells us to redeem the time. The Greek phrase means “to buy up every opportunity.” Time is one of God's greatest gifts, and every day presents opportunities to glorify Him. We are called to use our time, gifts, and circumstances to serve God, encourage others, love our families, and share the hope of the gospel before those opportunities pass.

Paul reminds us that “the days are evil.” We live in a world filled with sin, distractions, temptation, and spiritual opposition. The culture constantly competes for our attention and pulls us away from God's purposes. Since our time on earth is limited, we must choose to live intentionally rather than be consumed by fame, busyness, fear, or disappointment.

Life will include pain, illness, broken relationships, and unexpected trials. Yet those seasons do not diminish God's purpose. Just as Bart learned through his struggles, God often uses our hardest moments to deepen our faith and make us a testimony to His grace. Every season, including seasons of suffering, can become an opportunity to glorify Christ when we respond with wisdom, faith, and obedience.

We cannot control how many days we have, but we can choose how we live each one. May we walk wisely, redeem every opportunity God gives us, and invest our lives in what has eternal value.

Querido Padre Celestial,

Give us hearts that are sensitive to Your voice and aware of the opportunities You place before us. Forgive us for the times we waste our time, focus on temporary things, or miss opportunities to represent You well. Help us to make choices that reflect Your wisdom and to live each day with purpose. Use our struggles, victories, and ordinary moments as opportunities to grow closer to You and point others to Your grace. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Walking wisely means choosing to live with eternal perspective. Rather than chasing temporary success or being consumed by the pressures of life, we can trust God with our circumstances and use our time, gifts, and influence to fulfill His purposes.
