Trusting God’s Will In Suffering

Matthew 26:36-39 (ESV)
“Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
Devoción
Have you ever been in a moment where your whole being feels uncertain, weary, and shaky? Or have you ever felt great anguish, loss, or loneliness? The weight of pain is a kind of heaviness that we aren’t meant to carry alone. You see, Jesus understands you — He has felt exactly what you have felt. That great anguish, loss, suffering, and pain, Jesus faced it too.
“If it is possible, let this cup pass from me…” (Matthew 26:39). Jesus asked God to remove the cup from Him because of the deep anguish He felt. But He didn’t stop there. Jesus chose obedience — He is our greatest example of authentic emotion and complete surrender.
The meaning of Gethsemane is oil press — a picture of how Jesus was being spiritually and emotionally pressed as He faced the cross.
Through His great anguish, Jesus still obeyed, saying, “Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”
God wants to hear your raw and honest emotions. He invites you to bring them to Him and trust His will above your own.
Jesus’ obedience in the garden made possible our redemption on the cross.
So, pour out your heart honestly to God. Trust His plan above your own. True peace is found in saying with Jesus, “Not as I will, but as you will.”
Oración de hoy
Querido Padre Celestial,
I thank You that I can come to You at any time of day or night, and in Your steadfast love, You hear me. You know me and love me. There are times when I don’t understand the pain, the delay, or the circumstances, but in faith, I give them all to You. I lay them at the cross of Calvary and ask You to take it from there. I trust You with my life, and I ask for Your shalom peace — peace that passes all understanding, but also gives me wholeness and completeness so I can clearly hear Your voice. Lead me in Your path for Your name’s sake. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
