Trust In Him

Psalm 56:3 (NKJV)

“Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

Devoción

In Sunday’s message, Pastor Jentezen described that when we consider God’s promises, we can be either grape tasters or grasshoppers. We can see the opportunities ahead of us or we can see obstacles. When we complain or say we're afraid or it’s too hard, we aren't trusting Him. Like the Israelites, we want to go back to Egypt.

It may well be true that the fulfillment of God’s promise will not happen by human effort alone. After all, they are His promises. When faced with fear, we must make a choice, but we do not need to overcome fear on our own. This is good news! Today’s verse demonstrates the proper response to fear: we put our trust in God. God’s character is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The examples in Scripture are there for us. We are to remember the times when God made a way for us to increase our faith for the next promise. He can be counted on.

David, the author of today’s verse, demonstrated his trust in God by obedience. As a shepherd, David faced the lion and the bear; then he faced Goliath, then he faced Saul, then he became king. Then, he continued to lead Israel’s army against its enemies. God doesn’t let us see all the giants at once, because that would be too much for us. Each victory strengthens our faith. But for the next promise, the next victory, we may have to again face giants.

We have more than David had, if you can believe it. The Messiah has come. The Holy Spirit has been given, not to a few but to all who trust and follow Jesus. In Jesus we have all we need to be victorious as we obey.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You that I can trust in You whenever I am afraid. I confess I remain too long in fear before turning to trust. Shake me out of my fear, I pray. Help me build better habits so I turn to trust and prayer sooner. Show me the things that contribute to fear that I need to avoid. Show me the things that build trust that I need to be more consistent with as daily disciplines. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Self perception is blurry, and fear likes to hide. Ask someone who knows you if they can see where you have seen yourself like a grasshopper. Submit what they tell you to God, and if it is confirmed, begin to work with the Holy Spirit on how to overcome the situation.
