Jacob was left alone because he had positioned himself to be alone, having sent his family, servants, and possessions ahead. As believers sometimes we have to separate ourselves from all distraction to truly take hold, and wrestle God for our blessing.

Part B of our main text says that Jacob wrestled him until the breaking of the day. He held on until he prevailed. He held on until a new day broke. He didn’t give up, although he may have felt like it at some point in the night. Your struggle is real, but don’t give up! Don’t give in! A new day is on the horizon, a blessing is around the corner! Press into God!

My God and my maker. How wonderful it is to know that you see me, even in the midst of the situation that has marked me you are still God. I hold on to your unfailing love and fix my eyes on you, the author of my faith and my deliverer. Amen! 

Find some time to be alone this week, open your Bible and search for God’s promises concerning your situation. Write them down and carry them everywhere you go.
