The Goodness Of God In Our Waiting
Friday, March 22
Psalm 27:13 (NIV)
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
Devoción
In today’s verse, we meet David in a time of waiting; waiting on God to move, waiting to see prayers answered. But David had a strong faith in the Living God. He had confidence that no matter what difficulties or dangers he faced, God would rescue him and provide for him, he simply had to wait confidently for God to act.
In times of waiting, it can be easy to get discouraged and begin to question whether God is still there, wondering if He’s hearing the prayers being lifted up to Him. As Christians, we must quickly pull ourselves out of that state and look to God’s goodness in His Word. We can encourage our hearts with memories of God’s faithfulness, and stand in confident assurance that it will happen again. Even in the midst of difficulties, we can trust the love and goodness of God and feel His presence.
We can have full confidence in God during our times of waiting because He is good. He is the very essence of good, He is completely and absolutely good, and He never changes. We can rely fully on Him and maintain confidence in His goodness, not because of what we are doing and how we can change the situation, but because of who God is. We can remain confident that we will see the goodness of the Lord.

Querido Padre Celestial,
I thank You for all of Your help and answered prayers in times past. I thank You for Your provision and blessings. Most of all I thank You for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and for the resurrection. I confess my tendency to forget all You've done and spend too much time in worry and anxiety before remembering to pray. Help me to be confident that I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Show me the path to seeing Your goodness. Remind me to pray through Your Word, through Your Holy Spirit, through music, through preaching, and through brothers and sisters in Christ. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

What does waiting mean? For the people of God, waiting means praying as well as watching, and possibly preparing. Daniel, when he realized the time of God’s promise had come, fasted and prayed for several weeks before getting an answer (Daniel chapter 9). The answer was delayed as God’s angels fought against the opposing principalities. This example and glimpse into the spiritual realm should encourage us. Listen to the song “Waymaker” and think about the refrain – “Even when I can’t see it, You’re working…”
