Exodus 29:29-30 (NJKV)

““And the holy garments of Aaron shall be his sons’ after him, to be anointed in them and to be consecrated in them. That son who becomes priest in his place shall put them on for seven days, when he enters the tabernacle of meeting to minister in the holy place.”

Families are important to God because legacies are passed down to future generations, to those who will carry His name and their family name forward. We see this example in Aaron the High Priest and his sons. God specifically set apart the tribe of Levi to be brought near to Himself and to serve in His tabernacle. This meant that the priestly role was generational. It was to be passed on from Aaron to his sons, to his grandsons, and so forth.

It was important for Aaron to do his role well because one of his sons would not only inherit the responsibility of high priest, but also the lessons acquired while watching their father. Of all the things that were most important to be remembered and passed on, it was this mantle of ‘sacred things.’ The anointing and consecration of his mantle would set them apart for their divine purpose. It was in this mantle that they would stand before the Presence of God. It not only ensured their longevity, but the very future and blessing of the nation Israel depended on them doing their jobs right.

We can see parallels of this in our role as New Testament believers in Christ. 1 Peter 2:9 tells us, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Through Christ, we can enter into God’s Presence. This is the legacy we pass on to our children, our friends and loved ones around us, and the world. We pass on a goodly heritage, one that preserves His truth from generation to generation.

God will raise up people to carry His truth like a beacon in the night. The older generation passing the baton to the younger, catching the relay. Both have to be ready. This transaction is sacred to God, for His truth endures to all generations. (Psalm 100:5)

And this is the manifestation of the truth passed down through generations in the last days: “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” Joel 2:28, 29.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,

Cause me to live a life before You that honors You with a legacy of truth that can be passed down to future generations. May my life display Your goodness and mercy toward others. May Your presence in my life bring peace to someone else. I thank You; it is because of all that You are that I can do these things. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Looking at the character of Christ, identify one thing you would like to pass on to others to show them who He is. Meditate on this one attribute and intentionally reflect it to others throughout the day. You are building a legacy of truth that people will remember.
