The Fast: DAY 8

Sunday, January 11

Isaiah 58:6 (NIV)

““Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?”

Devoción

Early this week, Pastor Jentezen mentioned the Breakthrough Fast in his introduction to our 21-day Fast for 2026. This particular fast, as mentioned in Isaiah 58:6, is for a breakthrough. It is to break every yoke of power that the enemy has over your life.

The term yoke is not familiar to most of us, especially those not working in agriculture. A yoke is a wooden beam attached to the neck by cords or bands between a pair of oxen or other animals, enabling or forcing them to pull together. In Scripture, a “yoke” is usually regarded as an emblem of oppression or strenuous, mandatory toil. The phrase to break the yoke or loose the bands of wickedness denotes the release of captives. This implies that there is freedom from every burden.

Fasting will create a sensitivity to the Lord, enable us to see more clearly, but also will break the temptations that hold us captive. Fasting will release us of burdens—spiritually, physically, or whatever it is that holds us under bondage.

The Scripture reference in Isaiah reminds us of God’s desire to loosen chains of injustice and challenges us to examine our hearts and our actions. We cannot “love our brother” and be disconnected from kindness, mercy, and justice. Further, God wants us to be free from any oppression that inhibits us from living by the power and fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture reveals Satan's goal is to keep people in spiritual bondage through deception, fear, accusation, and lies. The enemy blinds us to the Gospel and ensnares us in sin, but Jesus came to destroy these works and bring freedom through His Spirit.

Fasting, combined with prayer, is a powerful discipline to break the enemy's hold, loosen "bonds of wickedness," sharpen our spiritual focus, and gain authority to overcome demonic influence.

As Pastor Franklin stated, “An empty stomach presents a place for God to fill you with His Holy Spirit.” This gives us the power to stand against the enemy. God wants us to be victors and not victims.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,

Thank You for drawing me to this fast. In it, You have chosen to loose the bonds of wickedness, undo heavy burdens, free me from oppression, and break every yoke. I humble myself before You and yield to the ministry of the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me into all the truth of the Word of God. Deliver me, O Lord, from sin and anything that would separate me from Your holy Presence. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
