Hungry For God’s Will

John 4:30-32 (NKJV)
“Then they went out of the city and came to Him. In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

Devoción

Jesus and his disciples were on their way from Judea to Galilee, and on their way they stopped in Samaria. Hungry from the journey, the disciples went into the town to get food for themselves and Jesus. While they were gone, Jesus had a conversation with a Samaritan woman and her life was radically changed.

In today’s scripture passage, we see Jesus and his disciples right after his conversation with the Samaritan woman. She had gone back to town to tell the people about Jesus and brought them to him, and his disciples had just recently returned from buying food. Knowing he would be hungry from the journey, the disciples urged Jesus to eat, and even began to question whether he had already gotten food from somewhere else.
What they didn’t know was that he hadn’t received physical food from somewhere else and neither was he hungry for natural food. Jesus was hungry for the Father’s will.
He told his disciples that his food was to do the will of Him who sent him and to finish His work (John 4:34).

What a wonderful example Jesus shows us of proper priorities. His appetite was always for the spiritual over the physical. He was sustained and strengthened by God as he was obedient to God’s will, even unto death on the cross.

During this time of fasting and prayer, we also will be sustained and strengthened by God as we seek Him and spend time in His presence. May we be hungrier for the Word of God than physical food, and allow God’s Word to satisfy our hunger in a way no physical food ever could. May we intentionally look to Jesus’ example of proper priorities, and have an appetite for doing God’s will over our own.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,
Just as Jesus was consumed with carrying out Your will, I long for that to be my passion. Help me, Lord, to be hungrier for You and for reaching others in their area of need, than I am for physical food or for the things of this world. Like Paul, I long to die to myself daily so that I may walk with integrity in the path You have laid out before me. Help me to take up my cross daily so that I may be used for Your glory. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
