Spiritual Food From Faithful Shepherds
Jeremiah 3:15 (ESV)
“‘And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
Devoción
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. Jesus said the Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He makes a distinction between a “hired hand” who is looking for a job and a paycheck, and those whose hearts for the people are like God’s heart (John 10:11-12).
When evaluating whether to let someone be a spiritual shepherd in your life, consider whether they demonstrate godly character and motives. We are also expected to test the teachings and words that come to us, comparing what is being said with what is in the Bible. The Apostle Paul didn’t mind being checked. People were commended for carefully comparing his teachings with Scripture (Acts 17:11).
How about you? Are you called to be a shepherd within your spheres of influence? Are you a parent, a teacher, a coach, a small group leader? Do you have people who report to you at work? Do you hold a position of trust? Whether those we shepherd are few or many, as followers of Jesus, we need to seek to have his heart, his perspective, and his knowledge and understanding for those people. We also need to pay close attention to our lives and character (1 Timothy 4:16) so that those we shepherd will be helped and not damaged (Hebrews 12:13).
Oración de hoy
Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You for sending Your Son as my good Shepherd, that I may be led in Your path by following his example. I praise You, as well, for the men and women of godly character whom You have placed in my life to shepherd over me and guide me along the path which You have set before me. Now, Lord, I ask that You use me to reach those whose hearts are lost in the dark world of sin. I pray that You soften their hearts and place a longing to know You within them. Please give me discernment to know when and how I may reach them for the Kingdom of Heaven, and I ask that You soften their hearts to be ready that they may receive Jesus as their Savior, and walk the path which You have laid out for them. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
