Truth That Stands
Monday, November 2
Matthew 10:32–34 (NIV)
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.”
Devoción
There comes a moment when silence is no longer simply the absence of words. It becomes the absence of courage. When truth is challenged, when conviction becomes costly, and when standing for what is right means standing apart from the crowd, we must decide whose approval matters most.
Jesus never promised that following Him would make us popular. In fact, He told His disciples quite the opposite. He warned them that they would face opposition, rejection, and persecution because of His name. Yet right in the middle of that warning, He gave them this promise: whoever acknowledges Him before others, He will acknowledge before His Father in heaven. What a beautiful exchange! We stand for Him here, and He stands for us there.
But we cannot overlook the weight of His warning either. To disown Him before others is no small matter. Jesus is not calling us to a convenient Christianity, one that speaks when it is celebrated and retreats when it is challenged. He is calling us to wholehearted allegiance. Because truth does not become less true when it becomes less popular.
Culture changes. Opinions change. Generations change. But the Word of God remains forever. Isaiah 40:8 reminds us, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.” We do not have the authority to rewrite what God has already spoken simply because the world has decided to believe something different.
And perhaps one of the greatest dangers of our time is not that truth has disappeared, but that those who know it have become afraid to speak it. Silence can become the enemy of truth when fear keeps us from speaking what God has entrusted to us.
But speaking truth was never meant to be separated from love. Jesus came full of grace and truth (John 1:14). Not grace without truth. Not truth without grace. Both. We are not called to win arguments at the expense of people. We are called to faithfully represent the One who came to save them. Love does not require us to agree with everything. And courage does not give us permission to abandon compassion. The same Jesus who spoke boldly against sin stretched out His hands to save sinners.
So what are we afraid of losing? Approval? Acceptance? Opportunity? Relationships? The comfort of blending in? Jesus asks a greater question in Matthew 10:28: Why fear those who can harm the body more than the One who holds eternity? The fear of man will always tempt us to compromise what the fear of the Lord calls us to uphold. And we cannot afford to exchange eternal truth for temporary applause.

Querido Padre Celestial,
Lord, give me the courage to stand upon Your Word when the world tells me to compromise. Forgive me for the moments I have allowed fear, comfort, or the approval of others to silence what You have called me to speak. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, that I may be bold in truth and abundant in love. Guard my heart from pride and my lips from words that do not reflect You. Help me to acknowledge You not only with what I say but also with how I live. May my convictions remain rooted in Your unchanging Word, and may my greatest desire always be to honor You above all else. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
