In Joshua 3 we learn that the Israelites will have to cross over the Jordan River on foot to enter the Promised Land. The fear has grown since the waters are now overflowing due to harvest season. Joshua is now tasked with leading the people to carry out God’s instructions and step out in faith. The people were overwhelmed with fear, many of whom never saw the parting of the Red Sea that Moses led them through at the beginning of this 40-year journey.

In Scripture, we see that the priests who led the group with the Ark of the Covenant in hand, touched the water with their feet (Joshua 3:15-17). They didn’t immerse their feet in the water, they touched it with much trepidation. With just a tap of their toe, a mustard seed of faith caused God to unleash a supernatural miracle. The waters rolled back into a nearby town to allow for the people to cross over on dry land. 

How many times have we forgotten that God is all powerful? Psalms says that His voice echoes above all things including hurricanes. Deuteronomy tells us that this 40-year journey to the Promised Land was only meant to be an 11-day trip, but the complaining and the unbelief of the people delayed the journey (Deuteronomy 1:2).

Let us stand in faith that God has full control of our circumstances when we let Him direct our journey.

We come before You in humility, acknowledging Your power and sovereignty over every situation in our lives. Just as You parted the waters of the Jordan for the Israelites, we believe that You are able to part the waters of fear, doubt, and uncertainty that we face today. Lord, increase our faith and remind us that even a small step of faith can unleash Your supernatural power. Help us to trust in Your timing, Your ways, and Your plans, knowing that You are leading us to our own promised lands. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
