Stay Busy With God’s Business

“One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”
Devoción
David was a man after God’s own heart, a mighty warrior, and the king of Israel. Yet, in this passage, we see him in a place he should not have been. While his men were fighting on the battlefield, David remained in Jerusalem. Instead of leading his army, he was sleeping and walking around the palace.
It was from that balcony that David saw Bathsheba bathing. What began with a glance became a desire, and that desire led him down a path of sin with devastating consequences.
David’s problem was not that he encountered temptation. Temptation comes to all of us. His downfall was that he gave temptation room to grow. He had dropped his guard by stepping away from his responsibilities and becoming idle when he should have been engaged in the work of the kingdom.
As Pastor Franklin highlighted in Sunday’s message, we must remain occupied and busy with God’s business. Scripture in Proverbs 16:27 reminds us that “idle hands are the devil’s workshop. When we neglect our God-given assignments, drift away from prayer, or become spiritually disengaged, we can create room for temptation to take root.
David was not tempted because he was on the battlefield serving his men. He was tempted while he was away from it. Had he been where he was supposed to be, leading his army into battle, he would not have been on that balcony at that moment. His sin did not begin with the temptation itself but with the decision to entertain it and ultimately give in.
The enemy seeks opportunities to draw us away from God’s purposes. When we are actively serving the Lord, loving Him, building His Kingdom, and faithfully carrying out our assignments, we are less likely to give temptation the space it needs to grow. This does not mean busy schedules make us immune to sin, but it does mean that a life surrendered to God leaves less room for spiritual drift.
Staying busy with Gods business is not about filling every moment with activity. It is about living with purpose, remaining close to God, and being faithful in the responsibilities He has entrusted to us.
