Standing In The Gap

Hebrews 7:25-26 (NKJV)

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens;”

Life has a way of bringing storms we never saw coming. A difficult diagnosis, an unexpected loss, a broken relationship, financial hardship, or seasons of waiting can leave us wondering if God sees us at all. In those moments, the enemy loves to whisper that we've been abandoned, forgotten, or left to fight on our own.

Today's scripture reminds us of a comforting truth: Jesus is not distant from our pain—He is actively involved in it.

The writer tells us that Jesus "always lives to make intercession" for those who belong to Him. To intercede means to stand in the gap on behalf of another. It's the picture of someone stepping between two parties to plead a case, to advocate, and to represent someone else's needs. Jesus stands before the Father as our perfect High Priest, continually speaking on our behalf.

Think about that for a moment. While we may struggle to find the words to pray, Jesus is already interceding. When our faith feels weak, He is praying for us. When we're misunderstood, overlooked, or carrying burdens no one else can see, our Savior stands in the gap, reminding us that we are His.

His intercession isn't based on our performance but on His finished work at the cross. Because He is holy, blameless, and perfect, His prayers are never ignored. He doesn't advocate for us because we've earned it; He does so because of His great love and the covenant He established through His sacrifice.

The storm may still rage around you, but you are never facing it alone. The One who conquered death is standing for you, praying for you, and securing your salvation. You may feel unseen by people, but you are never unseen by Jesus.

Today, if you're walking through a difficult season, let this truth anchor your heart: your Savior has not stepped away from your situation. He stands in the gap for you, and He never stops.

Querido Padre Celestial,

Thank You for giving me a High Priest in Jesus, one who stands in the gap for me. When I feel overwhelmed, unseen, or uncertain, remind me that I am never alone. Help me trust that You are working on my behalf, even in the moments when I cannot see the way forward. Strengthen my faith, calm my heart, and teach me to rest in the assurance that You are always with me and always interceding for me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
