In verses 6-7 of Numbers 17, Moses speaks God’s command that each chief bring his staff to him so he could place them before the Lord, in order that He might show beyond a doubt who would be His chosen priestly leader. The next day, as we read in verse 8 above, when Moses checked, the staff of Aaron had sprouted, put forth buds, produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds. Therefore, Aaron was the chosen priestly leader, and his staff took a place of honor in the sacred Ark of the Covenant, along with a golden jar of manna from the wilderness, and the Ten Commandments.

Note that Aaron had to bring his staff, or dead stick, to Moses just as God had commanded. Had he not brought his staff, he would not have been chosen. Has God called on you to bring a dried-up area of your life to Him? Have you obeyed? Maybe you are holding onto something He has told you to put down, or maybe He is telling you to pick up something of which you are afraid to. Perhaps He is prompting you to stand up for what is right in this world that has gone astray. Whatever He is requesting of you, know that He will give you the strength, boldness, and courage to follow through. He will bring life to that area of your life when you step out in obedience. It is time to stand up for Godliness.

Querido Padre Celestial,

I ask Your forgiveness for my unwillingness to always step out and obey You, whatever the cost. I long to have You bring new life to me and my walk with You. As I delve into Your Word and seek after You intimately, I ask that You cause me to bud and flourish as an instrument in Your hands, to take a stand and do Your will. I give all glory, honor, and praise to You, in the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

As you go to God in prayer today, lay your rod at His feet. Seek His wisdom and strength to do whatever He is asking. Place yourself before Him and see what beauty He can make from your obedience.
