It’s no secret, there is a real battle going on inside us. This unruly flesh demands to have its own way. And when it does, its fruit is evident: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, idolatry, contention, jealousy, outbursts of anger, hatred, selfish ambitions, dissensions, etc. Sound familiar?  

There is a way, however; to change this landscape, a way to win the battle over the flesh. The answer is quite clear: “… Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16) There is something wonderful that Jesus did before he ascended to be with the Father forever. He gave us the promise of an incredible gift – the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. For the believer who accepts Jesus into their heart, his Spirit abides there forever. He provides the strength, the wisdom, and the direction to overcome.

The Holy Spirit is committed to guide us into all the truth, teach us all things and bring all things to our remembrance what Jesus has said to us, so we can be victorious in this life. (John 16:13; John 14:26) When we humble ourselves to his leading and obey the voice of the Word of God, the fruit of his Spirit is evident: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:23). This same passage goes on to say, “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (verse 24, 25) This is the winning ticket.

  

The flesh can be conquered by the Spirit. May we never forget, “Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4) Lean on Him, learn from Him. This battle can be won. As we give Him our ‘yes’, we will watch the victory unfold!

Please forgive me for allowing my flesh to reign, impacting myself and others in a negative way. Lord, I repent and turn away from sin. I call upon Your Holy Spirit to help me, lead me and guide me into all Your truth. I choose You. I choose Your life. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

 

When temptation or ungodly emotion rises up, it may appeal to a desire or an offense within us. Rather than validating a wrong action because it aligns with a fleshly justification, walk by the Spirit by submitting your desire or emotion to the Lord and allow Him to renew your heart and mind toward the fruit of the Spirit. You don’t have to fight internal battles alone.
