Just moments after David received a promotion, the enemy rises up like a cobra ready to strike. David is now king over unified Israel. This knowledge has stirred up the enemy; Israel had been cohabitating with the Philistines and had not been a threat until now.

How does David meet this challenge? He goes down to the stronghold—the fortified place of past victories. That place of strength; the place where he can seek God’s advice and hear the Lord. The Lord is that place for you and me as well! He is our refuge, our fortress, our strong tower! Whatever the enemy is throwing at you today, go to a place of strength. Surround yourself with believers who can help you break through in prayer, fight alongside you, and provide you with godly counsel. Wait for the Lord’s direction. Don’t succumb to the enemy’s devices—seek a place of strength!
