Run The Race, Remember The Table

Sunday, June 1

Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,”

From the Garden to the Cross, Jesus lived a life of unwavering obedience to the Father. On the night of His betrayal, he sat at a table with his disciples and instituted what we now honor as communion. In doing so, he gave us more than a meal, he gave us a moment to remember, to realign, and to receive.
Hebrews 12:1 reminds us that we are not running this race alone. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, believers who went before us, many of whom held fast to the practice of communion, reaping every promise tied to it: healing, strength, provision, and eternal hope. They honored the table, and the table became for them a sacred point of connection with the finished work of Christ.
Just as Christ endured the cross and scorned its shame, we too are called to endure, and communion is one of the powerful ways we stay the course. It is both a declaration and a demonstration of our faith. Every time we break the bread and drink the cup, we proclaim his death until he comes again (1 Corinthians 11:26). We say, “Lord, I remember. I honor. I receive.”
Jesus laid the perfect example, not only in how to suffer and overcome but in how to lead others to the table of covenant. As we press forward in faith, let us not neglect this sacred act. It is not mere ritual; it is fuel for the race.
So today, throw off the weight. Lay down the distractions. And come back to the table, where grace flows, promises are remembered, and strength is renewed for the journey ahead.

Today's Prayer

Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You for the example Your Son set, for his obedience, his endurance, and the love You poured out through him at the cross. Help me to honor Your sacrifice by coming to the communion table with reverence and faith. As I partake, let me reap the fullness of every promise You made. Strengthen me for the race, and keep my eyes fixed on You. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Today, set aside intentional time to partake in communion, whether in church or at home. Approach it with fresh reverence. Before you partake, reflect on Christ’s endurance and the promises tied to his sacrifice. Is there a promise you need to hold on to, healing, peace, provision, or strength? Lay it before him at the table and receive by faith, just as those in the cloud of witnesses once did.
