Numbers 13:33 (NKJV)

“There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

Devoción

After traveling 300 miles round trip through Canaan, the spies whom Moses sent out returned after forty days. They went right to Moses and Aaron as soon as they arrived in the camp. They demonstrated to them, “this is the fruit of the Promised Land”, proving beyond a doubt that it indeed flowed with milk and honey. The spies acknowledged the veracity of what God had promised by uttering these words.

However, they then broke the news to them, which they interpreted as unfavorable. First, the local people are powerful. The Nephilim, a family of people descended from Anak, were considered powerful warriors due to their great strength and height. They inflated the situation by stating that they were as small as grasshoppers compared to the Nephilim. They appear to be arguing that fighting a war they could never win for a territory that could never be a pleasant place to live would be completely pointless.
The spies overlooked the Lord's support for them and the many promises He had made them, as they viewed the situation through human perspective.

This week, let’s challenge ourselves to view the Lord’s promises as true and steadfast. Let us view ourselves as fully equipped since we have the Lord on our side. Let us remember that the Lord is faithful, and His word is true.

Querido Padre Celestial,
I confess that while I want to trust You like the heroes of faith in Scripture, I don't want to face the kinds of difficulties that build trust. I prefer not to face Nephilim, giants, demons, or devils. Yet Your Word has made it clear that I am in a spiritual war with the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, and that victory can be mine in the blood of Jesus. Lord, I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Ask the Lord to show you a situation or opportunity where you have felt like a grasshopper. Consider whether God wants you there, and if he does, be honest with Him about your fears, then both pray for and act in faith.
