Responding To God’s Direction In Our Lives

Judges 4:7-9 (NKJV)
“I will lead Sisera, the commander of Jabin’s army, with his chariots and his troops to the Kishon River and give him into your hands.’” Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the LORD will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.”

God has direction in His word, or sometimes through Godly counsel for the battles we face in our lives. He tells us in His word what we should do and what He promises that He will do for us. How do we respond to His direction? Do we believe God will fulfill His promises? In the book of Luke 1:45, Elizabeth proclaims that Mary is “blessed because she believed God would fulfill His promise.” A few verses back in Luke 1:38 When the angel visited Mary and told her that she would become pregnant, she did not place stipulations on her obedience- instead Mary answered “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Although Barak had placed conditions on his obedience, Deborah mercifully was quick in the above passage to support Barak with a “Certainly I will go”, thus modeling for him the kind of response God is looking for when He gives us direction. It is the response that Jonah ran from when God told him to go to Ninevah. So often we either give God stipulations on our obedience like Barak, or we even go as far as running in the other direction as Jonah did. The next time the Holy Spirit speaks direction concerning the battle you are facing, how will you respond?
Oración de hoy
Querido Padre Celestial,
I confess that I am often like Barak, hesitant to follow Your instructions, especially when I fear failure or sense risk. Thank You that You send servants bearing Your name and Your Word to stand with me in battle. Help me to grow up in my faith and in my character. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and Your Word. Help me become one who can encourage and stand, and fight with others as Deborah went with Barak into battle. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Only God can achieve certain victories for us. Scripture shows us that God may look for some participation, some obedience, some “yes” on our part. Prayer is a good first step toward participating with God’s will in every situation. If you don’t know what to pray, pray the Lord’s Prayer. In a situation where you are seeking victory, ask God to show you if there is an action or a heart response He is asking of you.
