Remember The Lord

Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)
“And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

Moses was preparing the Israelites to enter the promised land. He knew he did not get to go with them (Numbers 20:12), but as their leader, he knew he needed to impart wisdom to them and remind them of how they were to live. They were preparing to enter a land filled with abundance, where God’s blessings would be poured out on them.

Moses was trying to ensure that the Israelites would remember God, that they would praise the Lord for all He had given them, that they would not forget who their source of all things is once they become full, prosperous, and satisfied. Moses was warning them not to credit their prosperity to their own hard work.

Just as the Israelites needed to be reminded, we also need the same reminder today. It is easy to fall into the habit of praising God and boldly declaring faith in Him when we’re just getting out of a wilderness season, that was filled with scarcity and lack, but how quickly do we forget His faithfulness and provision as we’re prospering and thriving in the blessings God has given us? Do we stay in a posture of humility, thanksgiving, and praise? Or do we begin to allow pride and self-righteousness to take over, crediting our hard work for our success instead of acknowledging the blessings and prosperity God has given?

If you have allowed pride and worldliness to take over, today is the best day to repent, remember the Lord your God, and praise Him for the blessings, abundance, and provision He has given to you.

Querido Padre Celestial,
I confess that there have been times when success, peace, and prosperity have come my way, and I allowed myself to feel prideful concerning what I had accomplished. While it’s okay to take pride in our work, I never want to forget that it is You who gives me the wisdom to accomplish each task to which I set my hands. Please forgive me for allowing worldliness to enter my life when everything was going good for me. I am determined to focus my mind on You. I give You honor and glory today for all You have done in, and through me. I want to be ever mindful to humbly give You the credit. I love You and thank You for Your goodness. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Have you allowed pride to enter your life when things were going well? Do you notice a distance between you and your Heavenly Father when success and prosperity come your way? Jot down some times that you have fallen into those traps of the enemy. Repent before the Lord, give Him praise for His goodness in your life, and commit to not allowing yourself to fall into those traps again.
