Revelation 5:8 (NLT)

“And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. “

Bible scholars have said that when God gave to Moses the design for the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant, He gave the same design that’s in His Heavenly Kingdom. How fitting, then, that He would instruct Moses to include an altar especially for incense.

Incense is a beautiful, fragrant aroma that is pleasing to God. He desires it greatly. And that is how He sees our prayers to Him! Just imagine that when we pray—our voices, our hearts, our minds—arise to Him like fragrant incense! How amazing that He receives it that way! He longs for us, His children, to commune with Him, to turn to Him, to come and talk with Him, to abide with Him. He loves us that much!

The following verse, Revelation 5:9, tells us that Jesus was the Lamb who was slain. He was the ONLY ONE worthy to open the scroll. He was slaughtered, and His blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. He Loves us that much! He went to great lengths to save us. He wants to hear from us. When we pray, He will listen. If we look for Him wholeheartedly, we will find Him! (Jeremiah 29:12–13).

Consider this, and think about your understanding of the value of prayer in your daily life. How does this inspire your personal and communal worship? How does this impact your relationship with Him and your approach to prayer? Let this eternal perspective seen in this passage have a positive influence on your priorities and decisions in your everyday life.

Querido Padre Celestial,

It always amazes me that I have Your Word! Thank You for preserving Your Word all these thousands of years so that I may have this beautiful image of You in Your Kingdom, Your Heavenly Realm, as You receive my prayers. Who am I that You are mindful of me? Thank You Lord! In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Heaven is our future. Those who have gone before us in Christ are there. Jesus has made a dwelling place for us there. Joy unspeakable and His peace are ours forever. When times seem unbearable, think on these things. Consider how this heavenly future changes the way you approach prayer and this temporal life here.
