Psalm 119:18 (NKJV)
“Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.”
Devoción
One of the most earnest prayers we can pray is, “Lord, open my eyes.” The psalmist knew that true understanding and appreciation for the treasures around us don’t come from our natural sight alone, they come from seeing through the eyes of the Spirit.
Life has a way of surrounding us with ashes, disappointments, challenges, loss, or seasons when the ordinary seems dull. Yet God’s Word reminds us there is always beauty to be found, even in brokenness. Sometimes the miracle is not in changing our situation but in changing our perspective.
In the movie ‘The Family Man’, Jack thinks he has it all, wealth, status, and success. But when he’s unexpectedly thrown into a glimpse of the life he could have had, a simpler, more sacrificial life full of love and family, he struggles to see the beauty in it. At first, it feels like ashes compared to his former luxury. But as Jack’s eyes are opened, he begins to see the wonder and the blessing he once overlooked. What once seemed ordinary becomes extraordinary through eyes that can truly see.
In the same way, when we pray, “Lord, open my eyes,” we invite God to help us see beauty beyond our physical circumstances. We see His hand in the small moments, His provision in our lack, His purpose in our pain. He gives us spiritual eyes to see hope where the world sees despair and to find treasures hidden in our everyday lives.
Today's Prayer
Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You for Your precious Word. Thank You for the Torah, the law given by Moses that the Psalmist is referring to in the verse of the day. Thank You for the Psalms, Proverbs, and the wisdom literature of Scripture. Thank You for the Prophets and that these things were written down as examples to us. Thank You for the Gospels, for Acts, and for the Epistles. Open my eyes, Lord so that I can see the wonderful things You have for me day to day. Help me not to live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God in Your Word! In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
