Numbers 16:1-5 (NKJV)
“Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men; and they rose up before Moses with some of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the congregation, representatives of the congregation, men of renown. They gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “You take too much upon yourselves, for all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?” So when Moses heard it, he fell on his face; and he spoke to Korah and all his company, saying, “Tomorrow morning the LORD will show who is His and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to Him. That one whom He chooses He will cause to come near to Him.”
Devoción
In this passage, Korah and his men murmured against Moses and Aaron. They took their eyes off of what God had selectively appointed them to (which was an honored place of intimacy with Him). Instead, they coveted another man’s calling and created a wedge of division amongst the congregation. Deception took root when they failed to understand that they had only the grace to walk in what God had designed and equipped them for – not another person’s work.
God took Korah’s murmuring personally because Moses and Aaron were appointed by Him.
He ended the conflict by ordering the earth to swallow up the rebellion. The bible says, “For where envy and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” (James 3:16 KJV) The trademark of the enemy is to send division and chaos, resulting in a house divided against itself and falling. But we are in the position to protect the house God gave us, by walking in the unity of the Spirit and in peace.
The bible is very clear about spiritual authority in the house of God. “And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will guide you with knowledge and understanding.” (Jeremiah 3:15) These individuals carry God’s vision and His heart for the place they are appointed to. A weighty burden and anointing they carry to ensure God’s saints are equipped for the work of the ministry and His people developed in the character of Christ.
As members of the Body of Christ, we are instructed to obey those who have the rule over us (Hebrews 13:17) and to submit ourselves to their leadership. For they watch for our souls and wish to give a good report. We ought to recognize those who labor among us, and esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And most importantly to be at peace among ourselves. (1 Thessalonians 5:12) If we do this, we will be rooted and thrive in the house God has planted us.
Today's Prayer
Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You for the divine order You have established in Your house. Forgive me for any time I have dishonored or questioned the authority You have placed over me. Teach me to walk in humility, honoring those You have anointed and appointed for Your work. Help me recognize the grace You’ve placed on my life and be faithful in my own assignment without comparison or envy. Let unity, peace, and submission to Your will mark my life so that I may thrive where You have planted me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

This week, intentionally honor the spiritual authority in your life, whether it’s your pastor, leader, or mentor. Pray for them, send them a message of encouragement, or offer a helping hand. Reflect on your own assignment and ask God to renew your passion for serving where He has placed you. When we guard our hearts from comparison and walk in unity, we strengthen the house of God.
