Psalm 136:1-5 (NKJV)
“Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the God of gods! For His mercy endures forever. Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords! For His mercy endures forever: To Him who alone does great wonders, For His mercy endures forever; To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures forever;”

Psalm 136 is known as "The Great Hallel." This psalm praises God for His acts throughout history, emphasizing His enduring, unfailing, loyal, active, and merciful love. This love reflects just a fraction of God's ‘chesed’, the Hebrew term for loving-kindness, mercy, or faithfulness which conveys a deeper meaning than simple kindness. Psalm 136 is traditionally recited at the end of the Passover Seder to remember the Exodus from Egypt. The repetitive refrain, ‘For His mercy endures forever,’ is more than poetic, it magnifies the depth and constancy of God’s love, inviting us to remember and internalize His acts of ‘chesed’.
Repetition is a powerful tool, athletes often repeat motions to get stronger, musicians repeat phrases to master their craft and chefs repeat processes for better delicious outcomes. When we repeat the same thing, we get a better result. Similarly, repeating truths about God can deepen our understanding and trust in Him.
Having to repeat in the act of taking communion is essential in bettering our relationship with Christ as well as to strengthen our focus on the victory that we have, only because of what Jesus has done on the cross expressing his heart of ‘chesed’ for us.

As we repeatedly partake in communion, we do so not out of ritual, but to continually refocus our hearts on the sacrifice of Christ and the ‘chesed’ he displayed on the cross. In repeating this act, we strengthen our relationship with him and live more fully in the victory he has won .

Today's Prayer

Querido Padre Celestial,
We thank You for Your enduring love, Your mercy that never fails. As we reflect on Your mercy shown throughout history and fulfilled through Christ on the cross, may our hearts be filled with gratitude. Help us to never grow tired of remembering Your goodness. Let each act of communion draw us closer to Your heart and remind us of the unshakable covenant love You’ve extended to us. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
