Finish The Race

Sunday, May 18

Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Devoción

In her message on Sunday, Courtney said that we shouldn't allow our past to define us. That we should remove all hindrances and lies we've believed. That we have to walk through the unpleasant to get to the next chapter. That is the place God wants us to be. He doesn’t want us to dwell forever on past mistakes. Even if, like Peter, we’ve failed more than once, God can still use us. He doesn't throw us away when we're not perfect. Instead, He wants us to get back on our feet and follow Him. All He asks is that we lean on Him and walk in obedience. Even if we are led through the fire, He will be there.

Our Savior suffered a great deal so that we could be saved. Yet he knew that, in the end, there would be joy in heaven, that many would surrender their lives to him. And that is what drove him on. He saw people from every nation standing before the throne. But it was the cross that brought them to their knees, knowing that God’s own Son loved them enough to suffer and die for them.

What are we willing to endure or go through? We have not even faced half of what he did.

Don’t let your past or mistakes stop you from living for God. Get rid of anything that stands between you and God, anything that holds you back from being all He’s called you to be. Are there any hidden sins in your life? Any addictions that get in the way of serving Him? Then get rid of them if they are a hindrance.

Are you fearful or full of doubt? Read the passages about courage and faith, and believe that He will never let you down. Keep your eyes on Him, not on your problems, because He is bigger than your problems. Determine today to follow Him no matter what. There are many witnesses watching you, and others will follow in your footsteps.

Don’t let anything or anyone change your mind. Determine today to stay the course and finish the race.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You for calling me to run this race of faith. Help me to lay aside every weight and sin that tries to entangle me. Strengthen me to persevere, especially when I feel weary or discouraged. I fix my eyes on Jesus, the One who endured the cross for the joy set before him. Let his example be my guide and my strength. Remind me daily that my past does not define me, You do. Thank You for not giving up on me. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
