Built On Wisdom

Friday, August 15

Proverbs 9:1-6 (NIV)
“Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out its seven pillars.” She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. She has sent out her servants, and she calls from the highest point of the city, “Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says, “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.”
Devoción

In Proverbs 9, wisdom is pictured as a gracious hostess who has built a strong, beautiful, and welcoming house. This house is not ordinary, it is supported by seven pillars, symbolizing perfection, stability, and completeness. Wisdom’s invitation is open to all: “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.” (vv. 5–6)

When we choose wisdom, we choose life. We are invited into a place of safety, strength, and abundance. Wisdom’s house is a refuge from confusion, instability, and destruction. But just as a strong house needs solid pillars to stand, a wise life is built on unshakable principles.

While the Bible doesn’t list the “seven pillars” here explicitly, many believe they are reflected in God’s Word, truths that hold up a life of spiritual stability:

1. Fear of the Lord: Reverence for God is the foundation of all wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).
2. Knowledge of God: Knowing Him personally deepens discernment (Proverbs 2:5).
3. Instruction: Willingness to learn and be corrected (Proverbs 4:13).
4. Understanding: Insight into God’s ways (Proverbs 3:5–6).
5. Counsel: Receiving godly advice (Proverbs 11:14).
6. Sound Judgment: Making choices aligned with righteousness (Proverbs 8:20).
7. Truth: Living in integrity and faithfulness (Proverbs 12:19).

When these pillars are in place, our lives stand firm through storms, temptations, and uncertainties. Wisdom’s banquet, her food and wine, represents the nourishment we receive when we live by these principles: peace instead of chaos, guidance instead of confusion, and blessing instead of regret.

The choice is before us daily: build on wisdom or wander in folly. God’s invitation still stands, step inside, feast on His Word, and let His wisdom be the structure your life rests on.

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,
Thank You for the invitation of wisdom, calling out from the highest point in the city. Open my ears to hear, my eyes to see, and my heart to understand. Help me leave my simple ways and walk in the way of insight. May your living water flow to me, in me, and through me. And once Your wisdom has changed me, let my voice be added to wisdom calling aloud to others also. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
