Building On The Right Foundation

2 Chronicles 14:2-7 (NKJV)
“Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him. He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the Lord gave him rest. “Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.”
Devoción
Throughout the pages of Scripture, we encounter numerous individuals who exhibit a mix of virtues and flaws. In the case of Asa, both his father and grandfather strayed from the righteous path, spreading idols and participating in cultic rituals within the kingdom.

However, despite the corrupt legacy within his family, Asa decided to break away from these wicked practices. He took a stand against the tide of wrongdoing by tearing down the altars of false gods in the nation of Judah.

The foundation Asa built was set upon honoring God as the one true God and not having any other places present where idol worship could continue throughout the nation. Scripture is clear that this act of courage and obedience resulted in the nation having a season of rest and no wars. In other words, Asa cleaned the house and sought the Lord.

God brought them peace only after Asa did what was right in God’s eyes.

Taking advantage of this time of peace, Asa set out to build up his cities’ walls, towers, and gates.
God wants to give us peace and rest in our lives. This comes by putting God first in our lives, seeking Him, and following His will. Then we can really get down to His business of building His Kingdom.

What is standing in the way of your peace and rest in the Lord? Like Asa, are there wicked practices you need to break away from? Are you ready to build His Kingdom?

Oración de hoy
Querido Padre Celestial,
I confess that I have allowed other things in life to take my time away from worshiping You as I should. Help me to rid my life of those things that have become idols. Show me how to clean house, so that You take first place in my life, as I build a new legacy for myself and my family. I give You all honor and praise, for You are the one true God, and I will forever worship You. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
