Better Is Coming

Jeremiah 32:13-17 (NIV)
“In their presence I gave Baruch these instructions: This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Take these documents, both the sealed and unsealed copies of the deed of purchase, and put them in a clay jar so they will last a long time. For this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Houses, fields and vineyards will again be bought in this land.’ “After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch son of Neriah, I prayed to the LORD: “Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Trust and patience are peas in a pod. Conversely, impatience testifies of distrust in the heart. God made the above promise to Jeremiah on the eve of a 70 year Babylonian captivity. Buying land that you might not use for 70 years requires both patience and trust in God's promises. Do we have enough trust in Jesus to wait patiently for a long time? Do we have enough patience to maintain our trust in Jesus if it gets worse before it gets better? The spiritual parallel to buying something is sowing the word of God and prayer.

Godliness with contentment is great gain. Jeremiah was not permitted to marry. He preached for decades before his prophecies began to be clearly fulfilled. And his vindication looked like a disaster for both him and his audience. A short time later, Nebuzaradan, a high commander in the Babylonian army, carried most of those remaining in Jerusalem and Judah into exile in Babylon, but he allowed Jeremiah to return to his home with provisions and a present. Baruch, Jeremiah's loyal scribe, was told not to seek great things, but that he would be allowed to escape with his life wherever he went.

Jeremiah and Baruch continued to go in and out among the people, encouraging them and speaking God's word to them. What a privilege it is to bear God's word and speak to God's people words of encouragement, exhortation, and comfort. If we pray for the gift of prophecy, this shall be our privilege also. And what could be better than bearing God's name, God's image, and God's word as we proclaim the death and resurrection of Jesus until he comes?

Oración de hoy

Querido Padre Celestial,
I long to be the bearer of Your name, image, and Word in this dark and hurting world. In my spheres of influence, help my light to shine as I encourage and speak the full truth of Your Words to those around me. Help me to both encourage and correct, following Your guidance. As I go, be with me and teach me what I shall speak, just as You promised Moses in Exodus 4:12. Use me, Lord, that You may be glorified. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

As with many believers, there are times when the Lord prompts us to speak to someone, and we allow fear to come in and put doubt into our minds. That is a trick of the enemy trying to stop you from stepping out in faith. Learn from Moses’ encounter with God as you read Exodus chapter 4:1-15, and become emboldened to become God’s mouthpiece.
