All May Prophecy?

Romans 4:17 (NIV)

“As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”

Devoción

In ourselves, we cannot call into existence the things that do not exist. We cannot turn a heart of stone into a heart of flesh. We do not have wisdom that leads to abundant life in Jesus.

Followers of Jesus are instructed to “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (Colossians 3:16). This is a way of life! If the word of Christ dwells in us richly, the Holy Spirit can use that resource to more readily guide us in living lives that are pleasing to God. Moreover, He can guide our words to help bring the message of Jesus and the power of Jesus to others for their help and salvation.

Prophecy is not only, or even mostly, prediction of the future. It is the right word from God at the right time, the right question, the right Scripture, the right song. For what purpose? First, to turn peoples’ hearts toward Jesus in repentance and faith; that is, to call life out of spiritual death and add to the family of God from many nations. Also, prophecy helps us provide Holy Spirit-led guidance to those we are responsible to lead or who ask for our help.

Knowing this, it is not strange that the Apostle Paul wrote, “Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.” One who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them (1 Corinthians 14:1, 4).

Let us be filled with the Word of God and ask for the Holy Spirit to use our tongues for life and not death. To God be the glory.

Querido Padre Celestial,

I commit to being filled with the Word of God so that I may speak life into situations and not death. For out of my heart, I will only speak good things, positive things, words that encourage and not tear down. Your Word is a powerful force in my life, and I thank You for guiding me in it. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

Look for opportunities to speak life into situations and to pray the Word of God over them. For some, this can become a life-changing habit. As you speak the Word, watch what God will do.
